From NewOrderOnline.com (Micke eriksson)

I was only 17 years at the time, and you had to be 18 to get in, as
the place was fully licensed. But, as I had bought my ticket in
advance, from Pet Sounds record shop in Stockholm, and the owner of
said record shop was the arranger of this concert, he let me in
anyway.
Having followed Joy Division since the release of "Transmission", and
being more or less obsessed with the group, it was with great
anticipation I positioned myself directly in front of the stage.
The opening act was a swedish group called Reeperbahn; I don't
remember much of them as I was so focused on the main act. I knew, or
thought I knew, that this gig took place exactly one year after Ian
Curtis' suicide.
It wasn't of course, as I later found out this took place on May 18.
Anyway, all of this, and also the fact that New Order's first single,
"Ceremony" just had been released, made me very tense and very nervous
in a way. Would they meet my expectations?
And, yes, of course they did. They opened with "Ceremony", and I loved
it. Even though the group seemed to experience some problems with the
PA and the equipment, they seemed to be very concentrated. And the
sound! I had never heard such a powerful sound before! Hook's
bass-sound I noticed especially, being a bassplayer myself. I can't
recall any more specifics; bear in my mind that this is more than 20
years ago, but I remember the feeling when I went home on the train. I
was truly stunned by the sound, by the songs, by the performance. I
never would have thought the group could exist after Ian Curtis'
death, but here they were, better than I could ever have anticipated!
I even got to ask Peter Hook what strings he used for his bass, as he
lingered on the stage afterwards... A childish question, but all I
could think of. Can't remember the brand now, though...
Yours
Mikael "Lurk" Eriksson
