compilation? wot they've only made 2 albums. Are you crazy?

just release the freakin unreleased tracks & mixes, some VIDEOS as bonus, as well as b-sides. there's no need for a compilation.

Er, before you chuck all of your toys out of the pram did you actually read the first post?

I suggested everything you wrote so not exactly sure why you've given this response unless you didn't read it.

Compilation can mean live and rare tracks... jeez... Raise eyebrow

I didn't ever pick up the sophomore album, so the cream of that album would be welcome, along with the Bee Gees cover that I never even heard.

If I have one wish for this type of project it's that it's handed over to James Nice to curate. A quality end product is then assured.

With Hooky trying to finish off Freebass and constantly DJing I somehow don't think Monaco will be hitting the studio any time soon. Not to mention, Pottsy has his solo career and gigging on the go.

If you take a look at the Revenge One True Passion V2.0 compilation from LTM you'll see that Hooky has produced a worthy reissue of his previous work at least once. That compilation had it all: remastered, b sides, demos, rare mixes etc.

I wouldn't write off a Monaco reissue just yet... a 2 CD "V2.0" release combining the best of each album, the bsides, demos, live etc is a definite possibility; the material is there.

Monaco deserves a bit of a full stop just as Revenge got.

I'd be interested in this. I thought Revenge 2.0 was worthwhile.

... Far more so! I never got into Revenge, they looked like just an excuse for Hooky to gig. Monaco was far better, surely. Plus I missed 'You Should Be Dancing', the Xmas freebies and the 'I've Got A Feeling' B-sides.

No one seems to have mentioned the extra bonus track from MFP that was issued in the US only (Under The Stars) which was the theme to Mrs Merton Show....

Their first album was the missing link between Technique and Get Ready IMO and it still sounds good now.

The second one was not as good - four songs aside.

I spoke to Hooky about this after one of his spoken word gigs and he said the record company won't play ball in selling the stuff to him, which is a real shame.
I loved the 'Monaco years' lots of fun gigs in small venues. I remember the liverpool lomax 2 where i think hookys opening gambit was ' I fookin hate scousers!'

of course if anybody wants to post these missing tunes.....

Yep - it's Weirdo isn't it?? Yes Yes

But then let's not forget that Hooky once said very candidly that he doesn't mind ripping himself off (there is quite a few for some reason on Brotherhood - Broken Promise = Isolation and then there's a bit in Way Of Life that cribs LWTUA)

Agreed, Mr Neck. And can somebody actually rip THEMESLVES off? In fact there are several bits of old Hooky in Monaco - 'EGG' in 'Shattered', 'Vicious Circle' in 'Sweet Lips'...

Isn't Sweet Lips also indirectly ripped off from an old Take That song (the chorus)? Something my wife Lorraine said to me at the time...and I can't help but believe her.

Can't tell you as I would rather have sex with my father than listen to Take That. But sounds plausible.
PS The computer bass-line to Mr Disco equals the one on State of the Nation, surely?
PPS Agree it's a shame there'll be no Monaco repackaging, I think M4P is Hooky's most consistent work since Technique, and the 2nd LP is tragically under-rated/-available. Plus Hooky seemed to be having fun again after the Republic wilderness and Mrs Merton scandal - the website freebies, the gigs, the BeeGees thing etc. Good times indeed.

Agree fully about that first Monaco album and the period surrounding it seeing Hooky looking very happy, relaxed and at ease with himself. It shows in the records too - they were great pop records and they charted very respectably too. Unthinkable now when you look back really. I guess it was because Monaco's debut album arrived at the right time - dead in the middle of the 8 year gap between Republic and Get Ready....it could have been seen as the PROPER successor to Technique instead of Republic..... they did some great free shows around that time too - at Sankeys Soap and Castlefield arena as part of the first D:Percussion (then initially called Re:Percussion) weekend free festivals.....

Good times indeed - feel nostalgic already now.... only cos 1997 was also the year I met the wife!
