Have you seen the back of this week's NME in the UK?
It's got Peter Hook's "What I'm LIstening to Right Now" selection.

And no 10 reads: New Order: Waiting For The Sirens' CAll (wally Gagel remix)

"It's a briallint remix because it incorporates about 10 New Order songs into the track. We're gonna put it on the B-Side to the Turn single."

Thanks to Andy (kREMLIN) for this bit of info....

That is probably the "Tribute" remix...

Sounds like an ok idea remixing 10 songs into one. Hmm.
What were the other 9 choices?

If it (probably) is the Tribute remix then I can spot about 8 songs in it:

Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Obviously!)
Bizarre Love Triangle - Shep Pettibone 12"
Shellshock
Thieves Like Us
Blue Monday
True Faith
Sub-culture - Low-life version
Confusion - Original 12"

EDIT: Just remembered "The Beach" is in there too. I recognise the lone hihat sequence, so that makes 9 altogether big grin I can't for the life of me recognise a tenth one yet.

I really like the mix, one or two sections sound a bit forced but overall it flows surprisingly well considering there's so much in there Thumb's Up!

cheers
I was referring to the songs in his top 10 list.
I didn't know the WFTSC remix b-side was already out. Any idea where I can get it?

It was released on an obscure promo that was sold on eBay a few months ago... hard to find now I guess.

Ally did get it somewhere else with the Jacques Lu Cont remix of I Told You So, so I guess there is another promo out.

Having downloaded a version kindly posted here some months ago, I can honestly say: don't hold yr breath. That whole 'incorporating other/older tracks into one song' is a little too close to the Jive Bunny megamix style of doing things for my liking.

Am a little surprised by Hooky's affection for it, since it seems a little passé and forced for my liking - the sort of thing you listen to once, think "yeah, whatever" and never listen to again. I've not felt compelled to play it since hearing it once after downloading it.

Well, according to the PR sheet that I got with my 10" promo of the Tribute Mix, the remixer was, indeed, Wally Gagel, so, yup, it probably is that mix! smile

Anyone know much about him? From searching the web I've found that he's been around for ages and has mixed, produced and appeared on countless records from Tanya Donelly to the Fight Club soundtrack to Folk Implosion (which surprised me a little, as the mix sounded a little amateurish for some one with such a pedigree). He released an album (Follow Your Bliss on Lunch Records) under his own name a couple of years ago - has anyone got it? What do they think?

While I'm here, here's a quote from Wally about his favourite albums (well, "production masterpieces", the interviewer asked) of all time, causally lifted from another website like my bike was casually lifted from my hallway just before New Year by thief or thieves unknown:

"Massive Attack’s Mezzanine, New Order’s Power, Corruption & Lies, Depeche Mode’s,.. (pauses) um,.. it’s not Violator*,.. (pauses) shit. It’s the one right before it. Anyway, at the same time I can listen to early Beatles stuff and be completely blown away. Revolver is still one of those records that is just unbelievable. And Queen II, (laughs) by Roy Thomas Baker, the complete over-the-top master-producer. And Radiohead, definitely. I think OK Computer is a brilliant record."

* For Digital Mike: the album in question is Music for the Masses. Trust me, it's a classic.

Yep, it's deffo going to be the Tribute Mix.

Jive Bunny? Spot on! It's cheesily cheerful at best, buttock clenchingly excruciating at worst.
